Our plan for Leeds

A bit about Leeds

Did you know that Leeds was the first city to have a motorway....The M1! And the much loved Marks & Spencer was born as a market stall too!

Leeds is a vibrant city in West Yorkshire where we have lots of homes in the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Here's what our homes look like in Leeds and on this page you'll find out what we’re doing to make it a place you can be proud to call home and what we've already done too.

New homes

Your community will be growing soon as we take ownership of seven brand new homes in Wetherby and we’re also developing a new site in Otley. These homes will also meet our programme for better homes, lower bills and a greener future.

All our new homes for rent go to those on the local authority housing register so you’ll need to apply directly to them if you’re interested.

Tenant Satisfaction Measures, Leeds edition

Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs) have been brought in by the Regulator of Social Housing. They are a way of comparing how landlords across the country are performing and to make sure that good quality homes and services are being provided. It also means landlords and social housing providers like us can be held to account when they need to do better for their customers.

For us, we see it as an opportunity to build your feedback and experiences into making our services better. And to do that, we've looked at what people in your area are telling us.

Some results and areas we'd like to improve:

  • 58% said overall, you were satisfied with your services
  • Only 44% said you were happy with our approach to managing anti-social behaviour
  • 53% said you were happy with your communal areas

You also told us:

  • 80% said we treat you with respect
  • 57% said that we keep you informed about things that matter to you

What we've done already

  • Swarcliffe events: We've supported our customers in The Larches to organise and deliver community events around Halloween and Easter.
  • Big Day Out: Swarcliffe was home to the biggest event for our Big Day Out on Yorkshire day
  • Imagination library:Working with other housing associations and Leeds City Council, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is launching on September 25th. Every month, children between 0 – 5 years old that are on the programme are sent a book – if enrolled from birth, that could be a total library of 60 books for each child! For Yorkshire Housing customers, that’s a total of 280 homes across LS8, LS9, LS14 and LS15 that could enrol for their children.
  • Northfield Mews: A new external door and a fob entry system has been introduced and some new post boxes have been put in too. We're also working on getting some recycling facilities for these homes.

New communities

New build homes mean new communities! We'll look at playing a more active role if you need help settling in. We'll aim to complete a home visit with you within the first six to eight weeks after you've moved in. A home visit will be to make sure you've got everything you need for your home and to share a little bit about your local area.

What's to come

Here's what we'll be doing in the near future:

  • We'll host our anti-social behaviour roadshow in Leeds where you can come along and share your experiences and of course, ask any questions you might have
  • Improving communal areas: From April 2025, we'll be doing checks on our communal areas and shared spaces, making a plan to put things right where they're not
  • A group of colleagues who live and work in Leeds will be bringing their local knowledge, passion and expertise to make changes to your area that work for you, our customers
  • We'll be partnering up with other housing associations in the Leeds area to tackle problems together

Want to get involved?

Local walkabouts - you'll be able to join us for a walkabout of your local area, where we can work together to see what needs improving. It could be anything from suggesting areas where a bench would be well used, finding some spaces for a BBQ area or bike store to make your neighbourhood a better place to live. We'll let you know when we're doing these either by letter, email or phone - we'd love for you to join us!

Be a customer champion - and get involved in your community! Not only will you be making a difference to where you live, it'll look great on your CV and you can get some hands-on experience in making your community somewhere you and your neighbours are proud to call home. Email customerservices@yorkshirehousing.co.uk or call us on 0345 366 4404 to let us know you're interested.
