Our plan for Harrogate and York

We want to make Harrogate and York even better places to live, and your feedback is helping us do just that.

From looking after shared spaces to tackling antisocial behaviour, we've been listening to what you've told us about your neighbourhoods and where things could improve.

We've put together a plan to focus on these areas, working with you and our local teams to make changes that make a difference.

Take a look at what's happening in your neighbourhood and how you can get involved...

Priorties in Harrogate and York

Your feedback gives us a clearer picture of what's going well and where we need to do more. Our latest customer satisfaction results show three areas where we want to make improvements:

62%: satisfied with how we deal with antisocial behaviour

64%: satisfied with communal areas

50%: satisfied with how we handle complaints

We're using these results to focus on the things that need the most attention, from dealing with antisocial behaviour to keeping shared spaces in good condition and improving how we respond when something goes wrong.

Your housing officers in Harrogate and York

Siobhan, Gemma and Samantha are your housing officers. They’ll be out and about in your neighbourhoods, carrying out estate inspections, checking shared spaces and chatting with customers.

If you see them, why not stop and say hello? It's a chance to ask questions, raise any concerns or tell them what's working well in your areas.

What we’re doing in Harrogate and York

Your feedback has shown us that dealing with antisocial behaviour is an area where we need to improve.

You'll see more of our housing officers out and about, helping to spot problems early and deal with concerns before they get worse.

We'll support customers affected by antisocial behaviour and work with those responsible to help prevent further problems.

We'll also work closely with the police, local councils and community groups to tackle issues and support activities that bring neighbours together.

Your feedback has shown us that the upkeep of shared spaces needs more attention.

We'll carry out regular cleaning, maintenance and estate inspections to help keep shared spaces in good condition.

We'll be checking that work has been completed properly and looking at ways to make reporting repairs quicker and easier.

You'll also have more opportunities to tell us about any problems in your neighbourhood, so we can look into them sooner.

We know there's more we can do to improve your experience when something goes wrong.

We'll make it easier to understand how complaints are handled and what happens after you've raised a concern.

We'll keep you updated throughout the process and make sure you know what we're doing to put things right.

We'll also use your feedback to understand where things need to change and help our teams improve the service you receive.

We've identified some areas across Harrogate and York where we'll be focusing more of our time.

Our housing officers will be visiting these neighbourhoods more often, carrying out estate inspections and speaking to customers about any concerns.

We'll also work with local partners to help tackle issues and make improvements where they're needed.

Some issues need more than one organisation to help put things right. We'll continue working with local councils, North Yorkshire Police, community groups, charities and other housing associations.

By sharing information and working together, we can respond to problems sooner and help customers get the right support.

We'll also support community activities that bring people together and help neighbours get to know each other.

Want to get involved?

We put our customers at the heart of everything we do. And we know the best way to improve our services is by listening to you. To do that properly, we need you on board to share your opinions and shape what we do.

If you’d like to get involved, just let us know by emailing yhplacemanagement@Yorkshirehousing.co.uk, and your Housing Officer will be in touch with details of the next inspection in your area.

Local walkabouts

As part of the role of our housing officers and our place plans, we’re spending more time out and about in our neighbourhoods, getting to know local areas and the people who live there. One way we do this is through regular local walkabouts. These give us the chance to look at what’s working well, spot anything that needs attention and talk with customers about what matters most in their area. We’ll send you an invitation a couple of weeks before each walkabout takes place.

You’ll usually see our colleagues out locally in Yorkshire Housing uniform, so keep an eye out and feel free to stop and say hello.

A little bit about Harrogate and York

There's plenty to love about Harrogate and York, from historic streets and famous landmarks to beautiful parks and green spaces!

Both places have their own stories to tell. Here are a few things you might not know about them:

Harrogate has 200 acres of green space right in the town centre. Known as The Stray, it's been part of Harrogate since 1778 and is a popular spot for walks, picnics and enjoying the outdoors.

Harrogate was once one of Britain's best-known spa towns. People travelled from across the country to enjoy its mineral springs. You can still see that history today at the Royal Pump Room and Turkish Baths.

York's city walls stretch for 3.4 kilometres. They're the longest medieval town walls in England, and you can walk along them for free while taking in views of the city.

York was once known as Jorvik. The Vikings gave the city its name more than 1,000 years ago. You can still see signs of its Viking past in street names such as Coppergate and Stonegate.
