Our plan for Bradford

A bit about Bradford

Did you know that Bradford was once known as the wool capital of the world? and that the famous artist David Hockney is from Bradford?  It was also the first place to serve “school dinners” back in 1906 and is home to over 4,000 listed buildings.

Bradford is a diverse historic city in West Yorkshire, with home across the city and close neighbourhoods.

Here’s what our homes look like in Bradford:

2306

homes

70

homes for older people

182

low-cost home ownership

165

supported housing

Between September 2025 and April 2026, we built 54 new homes in Bradford, and most of them for social housing customers. There are nine more homes planned to be built later this year, continuing our investment in good‑quality homes for local people.

What you told us about living in Bradford

We see feedback as an opportunity to improve our services. We know how much our customers like living in Bradford – with a customer satisfaction rating of 91% – but it doesn’t stop there. You’ve also told us there are areas where we can do better.

You said:

  • 75% are satisfied with how we manage anti‑social behaviour
  • 33% are happy with how complaints are managed
  • 50% are happy with your neighbourhood

This shows us that while things are working well in Barnsley, we need to be more visible in our communities, strengthen our partnerships, and improve shared spaces. Your Place Plan is designed to do exactly that.

What we’re doing in Bradford

We’ll be out and about more, carrying out regular estate inspections, spending time in our neighbourhoods and responding quickly when something needs attention.
We’re also hosting regular coffee mornings, giving you the chance to drop in, have a chat and share what’s important to them. These take place in Holmewood at the T.F.D Community Centre and in Bierley at the Life Centre, Bierley House. The feedback we receive at these sessions is really valuable and helps us understand what’s happening locally and how customers are feeling. If you’d like to know more about upcoming dates and times, please get in touch.

We’re committed to keeping our communities safe and pleasant to live in. We’ll do this by:

  • Supporting victims
  • Intervening early to prevent escalation
  • Working closely with councils, police and specialist support services

We want shared spaces to be clean, safe and well cared for. To achieve this, we’ll:

  • Carrying out estate inspections with customers
  • Making repairs quicker and communication clearer
  • Introducing improved cleaning standards and regular audits
We recently worked with customers in Bradford where a communal area was being used by people who don’t live there, which was causing antisocial behaviour.
We spoke with our customers about what was happening, working closely with the police and Bradford Council. Many customers told us that a fence or gate would help prevent further issues.
Working together with our partners at Travis Perkins, who kindly provided the materials at no cost, our Grounds Team was able to install the fencing as soon as it was delivered.
This small change has had a big impact for customers, with no additional costs or service charges.

Customer feedback, surveys and local insights help us know where to focus our time –whether that’s a block that needs extra attention or a neighbourhood facing ongoing challenges. We’ll keep using what you tell us to make sure you feel proud of where you live.

Want to get involved?

We put our customers at the heart of everything we do. And we know the best way to improve our services is by listening to you. To do that properly, we need you on board to share your opinions and shape what we do.

If you’d like to get involved, just let us know through the ‘Ask a question’ option on the customer portal, and your Housing Officer will be in touch with details of the next inspection in your area. Or you can give us a call on 0345 366 4404.

Local walkabouts

As part of the role of our housing officers and our place plans, we’re spending more time out and about in our neighbourhoods, getting to know local areas and the people who live there.

One way we do this is through regular local walkabouts. These give us the chance to look at what’s working well, spot anything that needs attention and talk with customers about what matters most in their area. We’ll send you an invitation a couple of weeks before each walkabout takes place.

You’ll usually see our colleagues out locally in Yorkshire Housing uniform, so keep an eye out and feel free to stop and say hello.

Be a customer champion

Get involved in your community, make a difference to where you live and gain valuable experience along the way. If you’d like to take part, let us know through the ‘Ask a question’ option on the customer portal or call us on 0345 366 4404.
