WORK is under way at 11 sites that will catapult Yorkshire Housing past the half-way point in its five-year new homes plan.
The housing association has 745 homes in the pipeline at places as far apart as Helmsley and Huddersfield.
Development at additional sites is due to begin over the next few months to drive progress further.
Twenty-three properties are now under construction in Huddersfield while 45 homes are being built in the picturesque North Yorkshire village.
The biggest scheme, which is for 270 dwellings, is in Sherburn-in-Elmet on a 25-acre site that was the organisation’s largest ever land acquisition.
Yorkshire Housing, a Leeds-based housing association, aims to build 3,120 homes across the region over the period from 2016 to 2021. The 1,000-mark was reached near the end of last year.
That figure included the addition of 239 homes in the eight months from April last year.
The 745 homes currently under construction will take the total to nearly 1,800, which is about 60 per cent of the ambitious target completed.
The 11 developments are as follows:
• Ripon Road, Killinghall, near Harrogate, North Yorkshire;
• Ricall Drive, Helmsley, North Yorkshire;
• Titan Works, Halifax, West Yorkshire;
• New Hay Road, Salendine Nook, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire;
• Barnsdale Road, Allerton Bywater, West Yorkshire;
• Spen Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire;
• Outwood Lane, Horsforth, West Yorkshire;
• Meaghill Rise, Otley, West Yorkshire;
• Hill End Road, Mapplewell, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire;
• Selby Road, Eggborough, near Selby, North Yorkshire;
• Hodgson’s Gate, Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire.
Andy Gamble, director of development at Yorkshire Housing, said:
“We’re delighted to have gone past the half-way point in the project – it’s quite a milestone for us and all our stakeholders. There is a desperate need for new social homes and these schemes will help us deliver those in a way that meets the needs of customers.”
The 11 schemes are as diverse as their locations – including 12 two-bedroom, 38 three-bedroom and five four-bedroom homes in Allerton Bywater, near Castleford. Construction on the £6.8m investment, on Barnsdale Road and backed by Homes England, is due to be completed in late summer this year.
The Huddersfield scheme, which is 23 homes on New Hey Road, Salendine Nook, features a mix of two and three-bedroom properties for shared ownership.
Yorkshire Housing is developing a further 45 properties on Riccal Drive in Helmsley, which features associated garaging, parking, amenity areas, landscaping, associated infrastructure and vehicular access.
Mr Gamble added:
“It’s vital that we continue to provide good quality and affordable homes in Yorkshire and keep our customers at the forefront of everything we do.
“We’ve worked with Homes England and a number of architects and building companies and we’d like to thank them all for helping us deliver these schemes.”
