Yorkshire Housing’s Home Improvement Agencies (HIAs) covering Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham, is supporting people to stay warm this winter.
The warmer winter campaign helps people to stay warm and well this winter. It provides help and advice on energy efficiency and how to keep fuel bills down.
A customer living in Sheffield benefitted from the service. She received external funding to have a new boiler installed and had her annual income increased by over £2,500.
Yorkshire Housing’s HIA needs, advice and support officer Jude Preston who supported the customer, said: “When I visited her house it was cold and it was having an impact on her health. We supported her to raise £2,300 using match funding from multiple charities including the Gas Safe Hardship fund. We also helped make a claim for a personal independence payment, where she was awarded an additional £55 a week. This will help her live more comfortably with her disability.”
The customer said: “The HIA support was very welcome and timely. I really appreciate all the support given to me and the time taken to do the work. I wasn’t aware of what support was out there. Thanks to Jude she helped me access other benefits and I ended up with a new boiler to keep me warm this winter.”
Jude added: “We’re doing our bit to help people to stay warm, well and independent over the winter. We can provide much needed support and advice to local vulnerable people. There’s Gas Safe funding available until 30 June. Please contact us on 0114 256 4270, see www.yorkshirehousing.co.uk or find us on our campaign hash tag #haveawarmerwinter.”
