Back in April, we chose Candlelighters as our Charity of the Year and what a six months it’s been!
Thanks to the amazing efforts of our colleagues, we’ve already raised over 14 thousand pounds to support children and families affected by childhood cancer. The biggest chunk of that came from our 50k charity walk, which raised over £10,000, and when we match it pound-for-pound, that’s an incredible £20,000 for Candlelighters.
In September, 44 of our colleagues set off from Leeds at 5:30am for the 50-kilometre challenge along the canal to Bingley and back. It wasn’t an easy feat... blisters, sore knees and tired legs were part of the deal, but every single one of them pushed through, fuelled by the thought of those they were walking for. A huge achievement from everyone involved!
But it’s not just been about walking, our colleagues took part in a basketball game which raised £254 and over £300 in a footy match, proof that a bit of friendly competition goes a long way!
We've also got to shoutout our Technical and Sustainability Manager, Richard! After running three marathons last year, he’s now taking on the Northern Traverse - a 300km run from one side of England to the other, climbing more than 6,000m along the way (that’s like scaling Ben Nevis seven times!). He’s already close to hitting his £1,000 target.
There’s plenty more to come too as we keep raising money for Candlelighters with our annual Christmas fundraiser in December, and the return of the quiz and raffle in March.
If you’d like to support Candlelighters as well, you can donate directly or even run your own fundraiser - from bake sales to sponsored walks. Every penny helps make life brighter for children and families facing cancer in Yorkshire. You can find out more about the amazing work Candlelighters do at candlelighters.org.uk. Thank you to everyone who’s donated so far.
