In this latest episode of Raising the Roof, our host and Yorkshire Housing CEO Nick Atkin sits down with Jonathan Wilson, Managing Director at Citu, to chat about the future of sustainable communities.
Citu is one of the UK’s most innovative property developers, putting sustainability front and centre in everything they do. From low-carbon building to creating neighbourhoods that bring people together, they’re changing the way we think about homes, places, and how we live more responsibly.
Jonathan brings loads of insight to this episode as he and Nick dig into what it really means to build communities that are truly sustainable.
They also talk about Citu’s flagship project, the Climate Innovation District in Leeds. It’s the UK’s biggest sustainable development and home to The Place, Yorkshire Housing’s zero-carbon workspace. It’s a real example of what’s possible when design, community, and climate goals come together.
Jonathan even lives in the district himself, so he shares what it’s like to be part of a community built around sustainability and what the area might look and feel like in a few years as it continues to grow.
“The Climate Innovation District was called the Climate Innovation District because it was designed to set out our ambition. It’s about the climate, it’s about innovation, and it’s about creating an industry-leading example.
“Our district stands for that, and I thoroughly love living here. It’s been a complete game changer for my life,” Jonathan said.
This episode is packed with ideas, inspiration, and real talk about the challenges and opportunities in building the homes of the future. If you care about climate action, better housing, or just want to hear from someone doing things differently, this one’s for you.
