Yorkshire Housing’s garden competition is hosted annually and open to all its residents.
This year’s second prize winner is Grace Peel for her unique garden in Liversedge near Dewsbury.
Home to many quirky items like mirrors, homemade furniture, solar-powered light bulbs and even a spiral Christmas tree frame – Grace’s garden impressed the judges with its creative use of recycled items and distinct style. Winning this award was no small feat as the garden went up against 27 other nominations across the whole of Yorkshire, with first prize going to the residents of St Marys Close in Leeds.
Grace said: “This was our first time entering into the garden competition and I’m so pleased we won second prize. My husband and I love our garden; it’s like another room for us. We like to sit and watch the squirrels and birds eat from the seed feeders and our grandchildren love having the space to play. They love growing gourds with us too. Next year we’re going to add raised beds along our fence and grow more vegetables.”
