Dorothy Allerdyce of Garth Court, York, celebrated her one hundredth birthday on 22 May 2018. Having received a letter from the Queen, Dorothy was pleasantly surprised to be visited by the new Lord Mayor of York Keith Orrell and his civic party.
Along with some of Dorothy’s close friends, the entourage enjoyed a cup of tea while they chatted and reminisced over some pictures from Dorothy’s life. She spoke fondly of her husband who fought in the Second World War.
Dorothy said: “Having a visit from the Lord Mayor made my day, it was really exciting.”
Yorkshire Housing independent living officer Debra Waudby, who manages the scheme, said: “It was a great day, Dorothy was thrilled with the surprise visit from the Lord Mayor and everyone who attended enjoyed themselves.”
People living at Garth Court enjoy the community environment and have access to a dining room, communal lounge, kitchen and take part in a number of communal events, such as coffee mornings.
