Dave has four young children and has traditionally found it hard to find work that fit around his family, he often struggled to hold down jobs long-term and therefore was unable to plan for the future or be confident of a steady income.
After contacting the Yorkshire Housing community investment team, Dave was offered the opportunity to apply for an individual learning grant and enrolled on a level two door security course, a first aid course and secured his Security Industry Authority (SIA) badge – certificates he would not have been able to fund himself.
After working closely with employment advisers, Dave’s first step into employment was when he accepted a job at York College as a security officer, since then he has taken up a hospitality role in his hometown, Malton. His new role means Dave now has an income he can rely on and he can also continue to spend time with his four young children.
Yorkshire Housing community investment manager James said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Dave, he continues to work hard and put himself in all the right places, in terms of opportunities. I’m so happy we can celebrate his recent achievements with this award and I wish him and his family all the best in the future.
Dave added: “I’m proud to have won this award, it isn’t too long ago that I was struggling to see a way out of the cycle, I wasn’t able to find a steady job that meant I could be with the kids and money was increasingly tight. Yorkshire Housing helped me no end, they helped me break the cycle and I’m very thankful to the whole community investment team.”
Dave’s journey since first contacting the community investment team has been very positive, he has always been eager to go the extra mile and always striving to make the most of the community investment team’s support so he could help his young family that is why Dave was awarded Yorkshire Housing’s Change Your Life Award for 2018.
