Yorkshire Housing brought the party to Bullcroft Close to mark 20 years this summer since the estate was first opened.
Five of the original customers still live on the estate some 20 years later, now with their children and grandchildren. Many people who used to live there also came back especially to mark the event.
A street party was held to celebrate this vibrant community, with Gazebos erected all over the estate by Yorkshire Housing. There were almost a hundred people at the event. Amongst the activities taking place on the day were hook a duck, crazy golf, a craft table, tombola and a game of Play Your Cards Right.
Alice Delany, Neighbourhood Officer said: “Many of the residents had mentioned that the 20th anniversary for opening Bullcroft Close was coming up. So we turned up to put on a great party on a summers afternoon for everybody to enjoy.”
James Haigh, community investment manager, Yorkshire Housing said: “Our celebration at Bullcroft Close has been a great opportunity for everyone to come together to share their stories about living here over the years.
“Some of these people have been living here since the homes were built and love living here. So much so that their sons, daughters and grandchildren all came along to join the celebrations.
“It shows how Yorkshire Housing have some amazingly vibrant communities all across Yorkshire.”
Original resident Margaret Pringle said: “When we first moved in twenty years ago there were only four bungalows ready, we watched the rest of them being built.”
“Some people who have moved away from the estate have said it was the biggest mistake they made in their lives.
“We have had some really lovely neighbours over the years that we are still friends with now. We have had births, christenings, weddings and deaths, so we have gone full cycle.”
