Yorkshire Housing’s home improvement agency team in the South have won £45,000 in grant money to help people stay safe in their homes for the year ahead.
The Gas Safe Charity Hardship Fund, which is provided by Foundations Independent Living Trust, the national organisation for home improvement agencies, is awarded to help ensure safety in homes across Yorkshire.
The team based in Sheffield managed to secure the funds to cover Barnsley, Sheffield and Rotherham, and eligible residents will soon be able apply for funds to help their homes comply with gas safety regulations.
The work is designed to address potential gas safety risks, a gas leak or CO poisoning and includes repairs, servicing, testing, gas safety checks and gas servicing. Those who are eligible for a grant must live in privately owned accommodation and be 60 years old or over and have low household income and/or a disability or be under 60 and have a low household income and/or a disability, or considered exceptionally vulnerable by the HIA.
South HIA manager, Layla Gorman, said she was absolutely delighted to be awarded the funds yet again.
“This is the sixth year in a row that we have been awarded this money to help our customers. It plays a vital role in enabling people to feel safe and secure in their own homes and brings that little bit of peace of mind. I’m proud of the team as well for their continued dedication to the safety of our customers and we look forward to getting on with the job of improving safety.”
The gas safety work is carried out by contractors registered with the government authorised registration body.
Yorkshire Housing’s home improvement agencies can offer advice, provide a handyperson service and oversee larger work on properties. We work with local authorities and partner agencies to help older homeowners, disabled people, those on low incomes and many others to retain their independence. We also provide a paid for service which can carry out private works to your home.
