A very Yorkshire partnership takes off

Yorkshire Air Ambulance has been named as our Charity of the Year for 2022 following a vote by 700 colleagues.

Business analyst Mo Rahman put forward Yorkshire Air Ambulance after he witnessed the brilliant work they do.

The charity rescued his friend when he fell when they were on a walk in the Dales together. He suffered spinal injuries and the outcome could have been tragically different had Yorkshire Air Ambulance not been there to help.

Mo said: “It’s generous donations from organisations like ours that keep this fantastic charity going. They need £12,000 each day just to keep both ambulances in the air, ready to come to the aid of people across Yorkshire.”

Mo explains more about his friend’s rescue:

Colleagues are planning an exciting calendar of events to raise £15,000.  This will be matched £ for £ by Yorkshire Housing, bringing the total to £30,000.

Yorkshire Housing has over 700 colleagues and owns and manages nearly 20,000 homes across Yorkshire.

Chief executive Nick Atkin said: “Mo’s story shows just how important the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is to people across the region. As a charity that saves lives each and every day across the huge area that is Yorkshire, I know colleagues will really be able to get behind this. We’re going to have a lot of fun raising valuable funds to support a great cause.”

The Yorkshire Ambulance covers the whole of Yorkshire and is funded entirely by donations from the public.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager (West and South Yorkshire), Vickie Bowden, said: “We are delighted to be chosen as Yorkshire Housing’s 2022 Charity of the Year and would like to thank Yorkshire Housing and their employees for all their support.

“It is great to be recognised for the lifesaving work we do across the region. Yorkshire Air Ambulance is operational 365 years a day and it costs £12,000 a day to keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances airborne. It is businesses and local communities such as Yorkshire Housing that are the life-blood of our Charity and we look forward to working with them over the next few months.”
