Version 2

Marnie Esposito, Yorkshire Housing volunteer, said:

“I have recently joined as a volunteer for the Help at Hand service as I really wanted to give something back and help other people in York.

“I’ve personally been helped by some amazing support services in Yorkshire and know how important they can be.

“If you can spare a few hours every week to help our customers with a few simple tasks within the existing Help at Hand Service, you will get the support and training to be a volunteer.

“I’d really encourage other people to think about being a Yorkshire Housing volunteer as it’s a great way to help people in our community. Join us today!”

Could you be an independence volunteer?

We are currently looking to recruit volunteers from across the York area, to help customers with simple everyday tasks such as shopping, making meals and attending appointments. The scheme is a joint initiative funded by City of York Council, and it is hoped that up to 20 volunteers will be recruited in the first 12 months.

Helen Bannister, Yorkshire Housing volunteer coordinator said:

“Our new volunteering opportunities in York are open to anyone who has some regular free time to give, even just a few hours a week. It will be to help our customers with really simple things like making light meals, doing local shopping or putting on the laundry. So if you are interested in volunteering, get in touch today!”

Abi, volunteer news article

Abi McMullan, first Yorkshire Housing volunteer, said:

“I have always really wanted to be a volunteer and this is a great chance to make a difference to the lives of older people in York. By giving just a few hours a week I will be able to help older people with everyday tasks which might include shopping, cooking and taking them to appointments, all good practical help.

“I’d really encourage other people to think about being a Yorkshire Housing volunteer as it’s a great way to help people in our community. Join us today!”

Bernie’s story

Bernie Risdale acts as a Yorkshire Housing volunteer at Ingelbeck Mews in Wakefield. She helps people when they first move into the housing scheme, giving them essential advice on how to pay their bills, rent and successfully manage their tenancy.

Bernie said: “I only came into volunteering because of the help I received from Yorkshire Housing when I first became a tenant. Now I can help other Yorkshire Housing residents who are in the same position.

“I love volunteering and helping people gives me a real sense of job satisfaction, if I can help people I will.”
