Sherwood Court extra care scheme in Wakefield

Sherwood Court is an extra care scheme in Kettlethorpe, Wakefield for over 60’s. Enjoy the independence of your own home with support from the onsite care team.

It’s a mixture of 1- and 2-bedroom self-contained apartments set in beautiful gardens. There’s a balcony and pleasant outdoor seating areas.

It’s on a quiet cul-de-sac, close to transport links but surrounded by countryside.

All areas are fully wheelchair accessible.

  • Lunch time meal – 3 courses served in our dining room. This is provided by Elior Catering

The scheme manager - there for customers

Scheme Manager Sharon Fitzpatrick is the friendly face of Yorkshire Housing, onsite Monday to Friday. She’s responsible for Sherwood Court being safe, secure and fit for purpose.  She oversees other contractors and services in the building.

Sharon’s there to support customers with any tenancy issues, as well as helping residents stay independent by signposting them to the right support from other agencies.

You’ll often see Sharon in the activities lounge co-ordinating events such as coffee mornings, as well as keeping residents up to date with the latest scheme news.

 

Onsite care

Sherwood Court customers can enjoy the independence and privacy of their own home with the added benefit of access to onsite care and support based on their assessed needs. The service is provided by Wakefield Council and was recently awarded Good by the Care Quality Commission – the report is available here

The specialist personal care and wellbeing support service is available 24 hours a day seven days a week. It’s flexible and responsive to the changing needs of customers. Services include:

  • Planned person-centred care to encourage and motivate individuals to  be independent.
  • Support Assistants provide personal care and do housework to support individual needs.
  • There’s an internal call system for emergencies, such as falls at home, giving peace of mind 24 hours a day.
  • Support to and from the dining area and with help with lunch is available if needed.
  • The care team work in partnership with others such as GP’s, district nurses and dietitians, to maintain the health and well-being of customers.
