Episode 1 To flex or not to flex

In this episode of Raising the Roof, we look at flexible working, the four-day week trial, Elon Musk’s controversial email to employees and workplace wellbeing.

Our CEO and host Nick Atkin is joined by Jenny Hill, Founder and Director of Ingo Interiors, and Beckie Hart, Regional Director for Yorkshire and the Humber at The Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

Episode highlights

“People are now coming to the workplace who’ve never ever worked in an office before.”  The pandemic brought with it a shift in the way people work. Nick talks about the new generation that sees office-based working as an alien concept.

Jenny gives her views on flexible working and the need for a change in mindset: “The biggest thing is getting out of our psyche that the workplace is somewhere where you’re told where to sit and what to do.”

“The no.1 question that recruiters are getting asked is what are the flexible working arrangements?” Beckie tells us what many job seekers are looking for in a new employer.

About the guests

Jenny Hill, Founder and Director of Ingo Interiors

Jenny is an award-winning interior designer specialising in work-based environments. She set up Ingo Interiors 10 years ago, after a career in designing sets for TV shows and working as an interior designer for architects, building surveyors and fit-out firms.

Since the pandemic hit, Jenny’s experience and approach to designing flexible workspaces has become even more relevant. She’s designed several hubs for the Canal & River Trust and is the mastermind behind the fit-out of our new hub, The Place — which she considers to be her best design work to date. All of these spaces were created using a hybrid workspace model for companies embracing a more agile approach to the working week.
