Yorkshire Housing has congratulated the first people to pass its new change your life programme, an initiative that helps tenants to gain essential employability skills to maximise their success in the job market.

The innovative programme offers a series of tutorial sessions to help tenants gain interviews and get advice on how to climb the job ladder.

To maximise success, experienced coaches use a mixture of online and classroom-based teaching. This happens over a short period of just two days per week for six weeks. Those who pass the course also become accredited members of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs.

Yorkshire Housing employment and enterprise team leader Nikki Flett was thrilled with the 100 per cent success rate from the first course, with all participants finding work, self-employment, voluntary work or work placements. Encouraging more Yorkshire Housing tenants to get involved, she said:

“The change your life programme is a great opportunity for our tenants to get support and training that will help build their confidence and get on the employment ladder, or even start their own business. It’s very much aimed at people who want to achieve results.”

Yorkshire Housing tenant Evan Lloyd, who specialises in IT and passed his courses said:

“The course really allowed me to discover more about my strengths and learn how to make the most of them. It’s thanks to this course that I’ve been able to secure an interview at a marketing agency in London.”

Nursing hopeful Sarah Bittaye expressed the same contentment suggesting her recently secured job at Sheffield Hospital was due to the “productive and progressive learning” she received through the programme.

And entrepreneur Lomembe Kamba Mao found the course invaluable as he now starts a new small business. He said: “This is an amazing experience that helped me to develop self-confidence and communication skills.”

More change your life programmes will start in Malton, Skipton and Leeds this September to continue this incredible work. If you’d like to find out more contact
