Yorkshire Housing has been shortlisted for development programme of the year at the Northern Housing Awards.

The housing association’s ambitious plans will see 3,120 new homes built by 2021.

More than 1,000 properties have been completed already and the 745 dwellings currently under construction takes the total to nearly 1,800.

It means Yorkshire Housing is more than halfway towards completing its development programme.

Yorkshire Housing director of development Andy Gamble said: “This is exciting news and testament to the hard work of the team.

“They have been working tirelessly to deliver our development programme to build 3,120 new properties by 2021. Our hard work will provide an opportunity for hundreds of people to move into high quality new homes.”

The prestigious Northern Housing Awards are due to be held on Thursday, May 23, at the home of Lancashire Cricket Club in Greater Manchester.

Featuring 18 categories, the awards celebrate the best in housing from across the Northern Powerhouse region.

This covers the following areas: Cheshire; County Durham; Cumbria; Greater Manchester; Lancashire; Merseyside; Northumberland; North Wales; Tees Valley; Tyne and Wear; and Yorkshire and Humber.

Judges at the black tie event include Jacqui Sinnott-Lacey, director of housing and inclusion at West Lancashire Borough Council, and John Paterson, a director at the ARK Consultancy.

Yorkshire Housing have 11 schemes currently under construction.

The biggest of these, which is for 270 homes, is a £55m project on a 25-acre site in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, that was the housing association’s biggest ever land acquisition.

The 11 developments are as follows:

• Ripon Road, Killinghall, near Harrogate, North Yorkshire;
• Riccal Drive, Helmsley, North Yorkshire;
• Titan Works, Halifax, West Yorkshire;
• New Hey Road, Salendine Nook, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire;
• Barnsdale Road, Allerton Bywater, West Yorkshire;

Construction on the £6.8m investment, on Barnsdale Road and backed by Homes England, is due to be completed in late summer this year.

There are a further 45 properties on Riccal Drive in Helmsley, which features associated garaging, parking, amenity areas, landscaping, associated infrastructure and vehicular access.

Yorkshire Housing worked with Sheffield architects MHA and contractor Countryside on the flagship Hodgson’s Gate scheme in Sherburn-in Elmet.
