Our commitment to build 3,000 new homes in the next three years has helped support rural communities, like Grassington, with the opening of our Aynham Close scheme earlier this year.

The former sheltered scheme site was transformed into 14 houses and eight apartments for affordable rent, helping to meet local needs better.

Working alongside Craven District Council and the National Park Authority we ensured the development was in-keeping with the picturesque Dales town.

Rural housing, like Anyham Close, offers a lifeline to many local residents, who would otherwise be priced out of an area they’ve known and lived in all their lives.

Stephen Akid, a tenant of our Grassington scheme said his “life changed immensely” when he received the keys to his two-bedroom apartment after years of sleeping on friends’ sofas.

Yorkshire Housing’s Chief executive Mervyn Jones said: “Not enough homes are being built for local people across rural England and communities are disappearing as a result. We look forward to supporting more communities, like Grassington, with our on-going work to build 3,000 new affordable homes across Yorkshire in the next three years.”
