Yorkshire Housing apprentice Muhammad Uddin has been announced as National Intermediate Apprentice of the Year at the Apprentice Awards 2018.

The awards showcase the diverse range of sectors engaged with apprenticeships and celebrate outstanding apprentices such as Muhammad, who go above and beyond to champion apprenticeships.

Muhammad Uddin, said winning the award was “absolutely phenomenal”. He added “Apprenticeships are growing by the day and it is good to be recognised and rewarded for our constant hard work and determination.

“My apprenticeships at Yorkshire Housing have enabled me to develop my skills and abilities by giving me hands-on experience across the business. Hard work and determination equals big rewards.”

Muhammad started his Yorkshire Housing apprenticeship straight after leaving school, joining the benefits and advice team. Within 12 months he achieved his level two business admin qualifications and successfully secured a role as customer complaints apprentice, enabling him to do his level three business admin qualification. Recently he was shortlisted in the top 20 Young Leader 24 Housing finalist awards.

He has been instrumental in the rollout of a new complaints system, mentoring new apprentices, running workshops and training staff. As an active apprentice champion he’s spoken at local BME forums, career events, been featured on podcasts, websites and represented on the Young Apprentice Ambassador network.

Kiran Olak, Yorkshire Housing’s senior people development coordinator, said: “We are incredibly proud that Muhammad has won this prestigious national apprentice award.

“He is a real credit to Yorkshire Housing and has done a great deal to champion apprenticeships. It has taken two years of hard work and commitment, going well beyond his day to day work to be put forward and win this national award. He’s an inspiration to all our current and future young apprentices.”

Neetu Singh, customer complaints and insight lead and Muhammad’s manager said the awards ceremony was a great evening with so much growing talent from such young individuals.

“Muhammad did fantastic winning the regionals but to go on and win the Nationals was the icing on the cake. His dedication and commitment in the last year with his day job and doing his apprenticeship at the same time showed his desire to grow and learn. We’re really proud of Muhammad and sure that he will go far.”

Andrea Tinsley, customer service team leader, said: “It was a great pleasure being invited to Muhammad’s awards ceremony and meeting other apprentices and organisations with the same passion and desire. Muhammad has worked extremely hard to get to this stage in his apprentice career and we’re super proud of him. Bring on your next challenges Muhammad, we’re right behind you.”

The awards were hosted by the National Apprenticeship Service, recognising apprentices who made a significant contribution to their workplaces. They provide businesses and individuals with a platform to showcase how apprenticeships have made a real difference to their organisation and their careers.
