Bernie Risdale acts as a Yorkshire Housing volunteer at Ingelbeck Mews in Wakefield. She helps people when they first move into the housing scheme, giving them essential advice on how to pay their bills, rent and successfully manage their tenancy.
Bernie said: “I only came into volunteering because of the help I received from Yorkshire Housing when I first became a tenant. Now I can help other Yorkshire Housing residents who are in the same position.
“I love volunteering and helping people gives me a real sense of job satisfaction, if I can help people I will.”
“I work one day a week and help with jobs all around Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield. It has been an insight into the lives of people who need practical help at home in order to keep them safe make their lives a little easier. It is very fulfilling to be able to contribute, even to a small degree, towards this aim. I have nothing but admiration for the attitude and commitment of all the staff to their clients.”
