One of our key priorities is to improve the energy efficiency of our homes so our customers will have lower fuel bills.
The Environmental Performance programme is Yorkshire Housing’s plan to achieve affordable warmth for all of our customers. There are a number of ways we are doing this:
-
Loft Insulation
We are upgrading loft insulation in homes heated by electricity or solid fuel. This will increase thermal efficiency: homes will be warmer and fuel bills will be reduced.
-
Cavity Wall Insulation
We have installed cavity wall insulation to over 8,000 of our homes and we are now working on a programme to complete cavity insulation to all homes.
-
Solid Wall Homes
Homes that do not have cavity walls (usually pre-1940) will benefit from highly efficient central heating boilers, together with other insulation improvements.
-
Renewable energy sources
We are piloting renewable energy technologies where there is no gas in an area, to bring about affordable warmth. Our first priority is in housing for older people. We have mainly used ground source and air source heat pumps. These are still fairly new technologies, so we are working with customers and energy providers on several projects, to understand how and where best to use them.
-
Affordable Warmth
Affordable warmth is defined as when a household needs to spend less than 10% of its income on total fuel use, in order to heat its home to an adequate standard of warmth.
