Affordable Warmth
Affordable warmth is when a household spends less than 10 per cent of its income on comfortably heating its home. Yorkshire Housing Group is committed to carrying on its efforts to make affordable warmth a reality to even more of its customers and tenants.
How many are missing out?
In 2002 about 2.25 million UK households were suffering fuel poverty and spending over 10 per cent of their income on heating their home. Yorkshire Housing Group is working to stop this and to significantly increase affordable warmth by 2010 by continuing its programme of continually upgrading heating appliances and levels of insulation.
Yorkshire Housing Group is taking steps with:
- a rolling programme to insulate all lofts and cavity walls in all homes
- installing efficient central heating systems in properties not on the mains gas network and in those with no central heating
- replacing old and inefficient gas boilers with high efficiency ‘A’ rated condensing gas boilers. These boilers are 90% efficient compared to older boilers at 65-75% efficiency.
- giving customers energy efficient light bulbs which use only a fifth of the energy used by a regular 100 watt bulb.
There is still a long way to go, but we aim to see significant reductions in fuel poverty by 2010.
