Decent Homes

Kitchen Before Decent Homes WorkAfter Decent Homes Work

By December 2010, the government wants all social housing to meet its standard, and Yorkshire Housing will do this.

The standard can be summarised as warm, modern and well-maintained.

The standard is mainly based on the age and condition of key components of the building, such as the roof, windows and kitchen, the absence of dangers such as fall hazards and the presence of insulation and controllable heating.

We survey a cross-section of our homes, recording the age and condition of key components. We then use that information to develop a plan of programmed works, prioritising those schemes and villages where there are some non-decent properties.

We deliver the programme of works using our project managers and our partners. The project managers make sure that our customers' own plans for their homes and their preferences are taken into consideration. They also make sure that the works are carried out to a high standard and that our customers are happy with the final result.

The completion of planned work will be subject to a property survey and if an element has been renewed in the last 5 years then this will not be renewed again. Our proposed programme for work to be carried out up to March 2011 is available to view on our Investment Schedule page.
