Saving Energy and Helping the Environment
Eco Homes
As we build new homes we must achieve 'very good' eco homes rating on all Housing Corporation funded schemes. Where affordable we try to meet an 'excellent' rating. For more information about new homes click
here.
Eco ratings where established by the British Research Establishment (BRE) and are categorised as 'good' 'very good' and 'excellent' are measured by the amount energy expended in the day to day use of homes. This includes energy efficient biolers and construction style, solar gain, trnsport and materials used.
The more sustainable features we include in a home the better the eco rating. You may be suprised that your home and how you live is one of the largest causes of environmental damage. A zero reated home means that the energy expended is equal to the amount of energy saved.
People can play their part by taking small changes in their homes by using energy efficient lighting or reducing air leakage form homes which in turn also help save money. (Click
here for more tips that save energy and you money).
We are building family homes in Huddersfield which will have an eco 'excellent' rating. (Insert link to part of development website which illustrates this). Heating in these homes will hardly be used because the fabric of the building has high levels of air tightness and insulation. Other environmental measures we have taken include large diameter surface water drainage which reduce the flow of rain water so that it does rush off from the site causing flooding elsewhere.
