Teens In Huddersfield Give Back For Screams
Six young teens from Huddersfield are bracing themselves for the scariest rollercoasters at Blackpool after giving back to the community as part of Yorkshire Housing's Dreamscheme.
The teens gave up their time and views to form the YoWebStarz internet group so they could help Yorkshire Housing engage with young people via the web and encourage more people to set up their own Dreamschemes to help the community.
The Dreamschemes work by asking young people to give up their time to improve the area in which they live and give back to the community. For every hour they give up they are rewarded with points that they can turn into prizes.
All six teenagers from the YoWebStarz group put their points together and earned themselves a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Claire, aged 19 said:
"It was a great day out, the rollercoaster's were ace and I screamed loads. Being part of YoWebStarz has been great. There are loads of teenagers like me living in Yorkshire Housing homes and I thought it was about time we had the opportunity to say what we wanted and have it put on our own section of the Yorkshire Housing website"
Naomi Selim, Youth Services Co-ordinator at Yorkshire Housing, said:
"The Dreamschemes are a great way to get young people engaged with their local community and make a real positive contribution.
"The YoWebStarz website group has been a terrific success, we have been able to engage with young people and find out what's important to them and they have learnt skills in web design, communication and team work which they can carry with them for life."
