How We Are Governed

Yorkshire Housing sets out to achieve the highest standards of governance, accountability and probity. We maintain rigorous internal controls systems. The effectiveness of these is reviewed regularly by Auditors who report directly to the Risk & Audit Committee. At the same time we aim to respond promptly and sensitively to the widely varying environment in which we provide homes and housing services.

Our Boards comprise of people who are committed to Yorkshire Housing and the communities we serve. Members have a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience to draw on, and they attend training sessions to broaden their knowledge and ensure they stay up to date.

Governance Structure

Yorkshire Housing governance structure as of April 2010, comprising the following boards and committees:

Yorkshire Housing Board

The Yorkshire Housing Board is responsible for Terms of Reference and will work with the Space Property Board, Committees and the Directors Team to ensure that business is dealt with effectively, decisions are made at the most appropriate level and in line with our Rules, and that the results of those decisions enhance performance.

Customer Services Committee

The core role for the Customer Services Committee is to ensure Yorkshire Housing delivers excellent customer service.

Resources and New Business Committee

The core role for the Resources and New Business Committee is to ensure that Yorkshire Housing's resources are used effectively in order to maintain the current and future viability of the Association and the delivery of value for money.

Risk and Audit Committee

The core role for the Audit and Risk Committee is to provide the Board with assurance as to the adequacy and effectiveness of management's arrangements for governance, risk management and internal control.

Space Property Board

The core role for the Space Property Board is:

• To provide market rented housing and housing for sale
• To act as an Estate Agent for Yorkshire Housing
• To operate the Homebuy Agency, Mortgage Rescue Scheme and any other initiative delegated by the Yorkshire Housing Board
• To pursue lucrative initiatives linked to housing and which have been approved by the Yorkshire Housing Board

All with the aim of bringing surpluses to Yorkshire Housing through revenue income and appreciating capital values.
