Gardening Services
Garden services are run by Yorkshire Housing Group for Ryedale Housing Association and by Craven Housing Association. Both carry out maintenance for communal gardens which is covered by service charges.
Yorkshire Housing Group
This service is provided for elderly and disabled tenants of Ryedale Housing Association.
The service covers lawns and hedges only. It usually runs during the growing season – normally from April to October.
Grass will be cut every fortnight which means 13 cuts over a 26-week period from April to October. Hedges are trimmed twice a year: once in July and again in October.

The cost of the year’s work is charged to the individual tenant. At present this is £212.06 per annum. Payment can be made either as a lump sum or in instalments over the rental year.
In 2005 the service was used by 57 customers in the Ryedale Housing Association area and is expected to be offered to customers in the Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing area from 2006.
Craven Housing Association
A Private garden charge is available for customers with a private garden and the charge will depend on its size, which will be inspected.
The service covers cutting lawns, hedges and leaf collection usually between late February and mid November.
The grass is cut fortnightly – that’s about 16 cuts per season. Hedges are trimmed three times a year and leaves are collected twice in the autumn.
In 2005 the service was used by about 900 Craven Housing Association customers.
