Funding for Community Groups & Tenant And Resident Associations
Applying for funding can be a complex business and many people are put off by the large application forms and procedures that often have to be completed before a successful funding bid can be completed.
This guide aims to give an overview of funding opportunities that might be of interest to tenants and community groups. It is not, however, a comprehesive guide and we would strongly advice you seek advice on what grants available to you locally.
Organisations that provide funding for community and voluntary groups
- South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau
- South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau is a voluntary organisation and registered charity set up to help voluntary and community organisations get the resources they need.
- Yorkshire Forward
- Yorkshire Forward - range of funding, some may be accessible to the community.
- York And North Yorkshire Community Foundation
- For projects and activities focusing on children and young people. Grants between £250 and £7,000. Your activity must fit one of four themes: aspirations and experiences, economic disadvantage, isolation and access, children's voices.
- Key Fund Yorkshire
- Key Fund Yorkshire provides mixed grant and loan packages to community owned organisations working in Yorkshire and the Humber.

- The Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber works with organisations across the Region to deliver Government policies and programmes and to contribute a regional perspective in their development.

- GrantsNet gives information about grant schemes available to businesses and charities in the Uk. Here you will find comprehensive information about grant support schemes for UK businesses and charities. GrantsNet aims to reduce the efforts and costs, of identifying and applying for a grant.
- Awards For All
- Awards for All offers grants of between £300 and £10,000 for projects that improve communities, and the lives of people within them. It is for voluntary and community groups, schools and health organisations, parish and town councils.
- Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards (PDF)
- The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme provides one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000. The funding we give goes towards providing practical benefits, such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit children, the elderly and adults and children with disabilities, living in the local communities around our stores in the UK.
- The Nationwide Foundation
- The Nationwide Foundation provide grants to other charities across the UK, within criteria defined by their Board of Trustees, who run the Foundation assisted by their staff team.
- Big Lottery Fund
- Every year BIG gives out millions of pounds from the National Lottery to good causes, money goes to community groups and to projects that improve health, education and the environment.
- The Tudor Trust
- Is an independent grant making trust that aims to improve peoples quality of life. Will support projects that support young people who need additional support with learning.
- The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
- Support good causes, is an independent grant making trust.
- Sutton Trust
- The main objective of the Sutton Trust is to improve educational opportunities for young people from non-privileged backgrounds and increase social mobility.
- Paul Hamlyn Foundation
- As an independent grant making body, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation fund organisations whose charitable activities help people to realise their potential and have a better quality of life.
- North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations
- North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations is a registered charity formed and run by voluntary and community organisations in York and North Yorkshire to promote, develop and support new and existing forms of voluntary and community action; and to ensure that their views and interests are well represented.
