Energy Saving Tips
Savings can also be made simply by changing the way you pay your bill. If you pay your bills by cheque, you could save £50-£60 a year by paying by direct debit. Paying online can save you even more.
Hot Water
Set the thermostat on your hot water cylinder to 60 ºC – you could save £10 a year
Lights
Save around £6 a year for each standard light bulb swapped to an energy efficient one... that's a saving a £50 a year if 8 light bulbs are swapped. Remember to turn off the light when you leave a room.
Kettles
Save around £15 a year by only boiling the amount of water that you need, but always remember to cover the element.
Heating
Turn your thermostat down by 1ºC (but no lower than 18ºC) and save around 10% of your heating bill.
Curtains
Draw your curtains at dusk. Don’t drape curtains over radiators. Choose lined curtains to prevent heat loss.
Appliances
If buying a new appliance, choose 'A' rated as they are cheaper to run.
Defrost your freezer regularly. Dry your washing outside as tumble dryers are expensive to run.
Entertainment
Turn your TV, DVD player, stereo etc off at the machine; standby uses energy.
Unplug your phone, iPod and laptop chargers when not in use.
