Steve Baxter

Steve Baxter - Electrician

Steve joined Yorkshire Housing (YH) in 2009 and is part of YH's HomeWorks Electrical team who carry out repairs, electrical inspections and other remedial works.

Steve said,

"After leaving school I worked for two electrical contracting firms before going onto design electrical installations. I did that for 12 years before I got the job at YH. After spending so many years working in an office, I enjoy getting out and about, going to different homes and visiting customers.

"Health and safety is really important in our job. I've been on a number of training courses through YH, such as how to use ladders safely, lone working and how to manage asbestos if we find it in customers homes.

"Team members and Line Managers are all willing to give help and advice on any issues or questions that you might have when you're out on site, which is great too. I have a helpful and friendly team and I'm doing work I enjoy."

Kath Howe

Kath Howe, Neighbourhood Officer

Kath started working at Yorkshire Housing eight years ago as an Office Manager. Two years ago she applied for a three month secondment as a Housing Officer.

Kath said,

"The three month secondment turned into one year and when the opportunity came up, I applied for a permanent position as a Neighbourhood Officer. I have to say I have never looked back or been happier in my job.

"I had worked in administration before I became a Neighbourhood Officer but my Manager and the rest of the team here really encouraged me and helped me with the different role. And they still do now!

"The best parts of the job are seeing how pleased customers are when you offer them a property and hearing them say "thank you" for what you've done.

"I feel proud to work for Yorkshire Housing, and am grateful for the opportunities I have had. I really am pleased that I made a career change!"
