To help you settle into your new home we can provide furniture and kitchen appliances for rent.
We can only provide this service if you are a new customer and you can’t supply these items yourself.

Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to rent these items for?
You must keep and pay for the furniture and appliances for at least three years, or for as long as you rent your home from us if this is less than three years. Please remember – you must keep to this agreement even if your circumstances change.
Can the items be purchased from Yorkshire Housing?
Due to housing benefit rules you can’t buy the furniture or appliances from us, it must always remain the property of Yorkshire Housing.
What happens when an item needs repairing?
We will arrange for repairs to be carried out as a result of normal wear and tear. We aim to meet the following targets:
- Emergency repairs to appliances carried out within 24 hours
- Priority repairs to appliances and furniture carried out within five working days
- Routine repairs to appliances and furniture carried out within 20 working days
If any item is beyond economic repair, we will aim to replace it within five working days.
Who is responsible for upkeep of the items?
You will be asked to sign a list of the items you are renting from us, and accept responsibility for looking after them.
Please take good care of the items you rent and keep them in good working order. You need to report any faults or damage to us straight away. We will visit you once a year to make sure they are being kept in good condition.
We will charge you for damage caused by neglect or wilful abuse. If any of the furniture or appliances are stolen, we will take the necessary steps to recover the cost of those items.
How much will it cost to rent items?
We work out an affordable rent based on how much each item is worth and will give you an estimate of the charge. After three years, we will halve the rent you pay on your furniture and appliances if you wish to carry on renting them.
How are the rented items paid for?
We will collect the rent for the furniture and appliances together with the rent you pay for your home. Housing benefit may cover the cost of renting these items and we can help you apply for this if you are eligible.
When will the items be delivered?
We aim to deliver furniture and appliances within five working days of receiving an order where carpets are not required.
If you have asked for fitted carpets as well as furniture and appliances, we aim to deliver within 10 working days.
Are the items new or second-hand?
Some of our furniture and appliances are new and some are used. Used items are professionally cleaned and in good working order.
You can expect to be provided with good quality furniture that meets all current safety and performance standards. We will use reputable and approved contractors to deliver furniture and appliances to your home.
