Happy customers in Barnsley

At the end of May, Yorkshire Housing (YH) staff, YH customers, Able Bathing and Howdens Joinery celebrated 100% customer satisfaction after new kitchens were installed into 41 homes at Chestnut Court in Barnsley.

The 12 week project at YH’s biggest independent living scheme was completed by YH and Able Bathing with a flourish as the communal kitchen was completed. It was officially opened by Chestnut Court’s Warden Debbie Thompson and two customers. Howdens Joinery kindly supplied the new kitchen cabinets and Able Bathing donated the man power to fit it for free.

The companies had been working at the scheme to install the brand new kitchens, which are being enjoyed by all the customers at Chestnut Court.

Mrs Black, who has lived at Chestnut Court for seven years, said:

I’m really happy with my kitchen, everything’s just right and it’s made me want to keep it tidy. Not having a kitchen for five days didn’t trouble me at all, we managed with the communal kitchen here.

Lots of us live on our own at Chestnut Court so it was actually really nice to have the contractors around. They were so considerate to us and treated our homes like they were their own.

Mrs Fields said:

It’s felt like Yorkshire Housing has only been here for a few weeks, all the workmen have been really good.  I was able to choose the colour and style for the kitchen and I’m really pleased with how it has turned out.

Andy Kelham, Yorkshire Housing’s Investment Project Officer in charge of the project said:

Installing the kitchens here at Chestnut Court has been a great example of how successful partnership working can be. Yorkshire Housing began the project by consulting with customers and we have continued to stay in touch with them throughout the whole process.

The contractors have been superb, both working with us and with the customers. Donating their time and equipment to provide and fit the communal kitchen has been the icing on the cake and we are looking forward to working with Able Bathing and Howdens in the future.
